MiSTer Laggy
MiSTer Laggy is a device for measuring display latency. It is used in conjunction with a MiSTer FPGA system and the MiSTer Laggy core. It measures the time between when a frame is sent to a television (or other display device) and when that frame is displayed. The firmware running on the FPGA allows you to switch video resolutions and refresh rates so displays can be tested under different conditions.
Display latency is of special interest in retro gaming because traditional CRT displays had zero latency. Modern OLED and LCD displays have advanced video processing pipelines that can come at the cost of increased latency. Manufacturers usually do not provide useful latency numbers and the performance of an individual display can vary depending on the settings applied along with the resolution and refresh rate of the input signal.
Note This device requires a MiSTer-compativle FPGA board and an IO board that has a User Port. Without those it is just a cute little piece of plastic that you can fidget with.
